Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Framingham, MA / Hybrid | Full-Time

ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join our team in a high-impact, dual-focus role that blends technical consulting with active business development. Operating within a seller-doer model — where you both deliver work and grow the business — you'll lead fire protection design and code consulting projects while leveraging your professional network to build and expand our regional presence. This is a unique opportunity to shape the direction of a local practice and, over time, build and lead your own team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Design and administer fire safety systems, including sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control systems, and special hazard suppression systems.
• Perform fire protection system 3D computer-based hydraulic modeling, drafting, and calculations, and conduct building fire safety due diligence surveys.
• Conduct dust and flammable gas explosion hazard analysis, fire modeling, and evacuation analysis; provide code consulting under National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and International Code Council (ICC) standards.
• Drive business development efforts (approximately 40% of the role), including identifying and pursuing new client opportunities, presenting to prospective clients, and contributing to proposals and marketing efforts.
• Delegate tasks to and mentor junior team members, including interns, as the local team grows.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of fire protection engineering experience; 10 or more years strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control systems, special hazard suppression systems, and 3D hydraulic modeling software.
• Working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards is essential; familiarity with ICC codes and fire modeling tools is expected.
• Demonstrated ability to develop new business, manage client relationships, and present a credible plan for regional growth; an existing book of business or professional network is a strong advantage.
• Experience managing or mentoring others, with operational or P&L (profit and loss) awareness.
• Strong communicator — comfortable presenting technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and manage both technical and client-facing responsibilities simultaneously.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and comfortable working on active job sites and construction sites of all types.
• Own reliable transportation required; mileage and travel expenses are reimbursed as incurred.

NICE TO HAVE
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Consulting or business development experience specifically in fire protection or a related engineering discipline.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
• Full-time position; Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional weekend site visits.
• Mileage and travel expenses reimbursed as incurred.
• All tools and equipment provided.
