Overview:
This role places security officers in a youth-centered residential campus environment, requiring a proactive and engaged presence rather than passive monitoring. Officers must be calm under pressure, skilled in verbal communication, and comfortable working alongside teenage residents and campus staff. All selected candidates will receive Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification through on-site training.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and control entry/exit points, conduct interior and exterior campus patrols, and observe behavioral activity
- Apply verbal de-escalation techniques to manage and diffuse tense or crisis situations
- Complete detailed incident reports and document behavioral concerns accurately
- Collaborate with campus staff and leadership to enforce site-specific policies respectfully and consistently
Requirements:
- Valid Illinois PERC Card required
- Minimum 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain professional boundaries with youth residents
- Prior experience in schools, youth programs, or residential facilities is a plus; de-escalation or crisis intervention training is valued
